A number of programmes to prevent spread of contagious diseases: Minister

Members of a task force led by Ministers and people’s representatives will visit households on January 21 as part of Arogya Jaagratha, a Statewide health campaign being launched to prevent the spread of diseases, said Health Minister K.K. Shylaja here on Thursday at a press conference.

She said the government expected to prevent the spread of contagious diseases effectively during the current year through a host of programmes. The task force members will visit every household in the State to assess the ground situation on disease prevention and raise awareness among people. The Minister said that clean environment, proper waste disposal and management, clean water availability, destruction of mosquito breeding grounds, etc. would be the focus areas of the task force.

The local government bodies will hold special meetings between January 22 and 25 to devise preventive measures. Neighbourhood groups will meet between January 22 and 31 to make micro-level plans.

Special grama sabha meetings will be held between January 25 and 30 to chalk out ward-level programmes of action for cleanliness. Cleanliness maps will be drawn up by the task force after visiting various localities and houses between January 22 and 27.

Cleanliness day

January 20 will be observed as institutional and hospital cleanliness day and January 30 will be observed as day for achieving cleanliness in market places, institutions, and public places, the Minister added. Health awareness programmes will be organised under the leadership of local bodies between February 15 and 25.
