Students get close-up look at robotic surgery

ROCKFORD — OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center staff demonstrated a da Vinci surgical robot to five Rockford Lutheran High School students and their teacher on Thursday.

“I was really impressed with the minimal invasiveness of the surgery, how much you can do in such a small area. It was really cool to see,” said Taylor Berke, a senior at Rockford Lutheran.

The demonstration included a presentation on Intuitive Surgical, Inc., the company that manufactures the robot, and a video showing the da Vinci robot in action. The students were also able to practice using the da Vinci surgical robot.
