DUBAI: An inebriated man punched a Dubai airport officer leaving him with a swollen face when he tried to talk him into entering the detention room over alcohol abuse.
The Arab man, 22, landed at the Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday charged with assaulting the Yemeni policeman, 24, and posing fierce resistance when airport security personnel tried to detain him on Dec.31, 2017.
Prosecutors also accused him of abusing alcohol, a charge he acknowledged. He then contended, “By the time I assaulted the officer I had lost my mental ability to understand what I was doing.” His lawyer asked for time. The proceeding was deferred to Jan.29.
