WAXAHACHIE
A 24-point second quarter for the visiting Stephenville Honeybees did-in the Life Waxahachie Lady Mustangs on their home court Wednesday evening.
Stephenville carried a 38-9 lead into halftime and never looked back in the 68-30 win.
"We started off a little slow and didn't seem to have a lot of energy in the first half. But we fought in the second half and, even though we didn't win the second half, we played with a lot of energy," said Jarod Moss, Life Waxahachie head girls' basketball coach. "[...] It takes energy for four quarters. All five players on the court have to give 100 percent. It can't just be two players, it can't be three, it has to be all five players working hard. If we do that, we will be successful."
Moss also noted the play of Jennifer Reese, who led the Lady Mustangs with 17 points, as one of the bright spots on the evening.
"Jennifer did a good job of going to get rebounds and making things happen when we were kind of stagnant at times," he added.
Kyndal Nichols finished with 10 points, while De'aundria Gipson had two, and Micah Cooper rounded out the scoring with one.
The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs to 15-9 on the year and 2-4 in District 8-4A. Life Waxahachie is currently one-game back of Godley for the fourth and final district playoff spot.
