Provo • When BYU and the University of South Florida announced a home-and-home football series back in 2014, the meetings were seven and eight years away.
Well, they’ve gotten a bit closer.
BYU will play the Bulls in Tampa, Fla., on Oct. 12, 2019, instead of in 2022, USF announced Thursday. USF will play at BYU in 2021.
An independent in college football, BYU’s 2018 and 2019 schedules are now complete.
In 2019, BYU also travels to Tennessee (Sept. 7), Toledo (Sept. 28), Utah State (Nov. 2), UMass (Nov. 23 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.) and San Diego State.
The Cougars will host Utah, USC, Washington, Boise State, Liberty and Idaho State in 2019.
South Florida asked for the changes so it could schedule a three-game series with Louisville, a series that was also announced Thursday.
This year’s schedule was completed several months ago. The Cougars open the 2018 season at Arizona, which recently replaced coach Rich Rodriguez with Kevin Sumlin, the former Texas A&M coach.
BYU also travels to Wisconsin, Washington, Boise State, UMass and Utah in coach Kalani Sitake’s third season.
