Alexis Sanchez: Manchester United told Arsenal that Anthony Martial will be like star

MANCHESTER UNITED expect Anthony Martial to one day be as good as Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.

Manchester United are set to sign Sanchez from Arsenal soon, with the Red Devils keen for him to make his debut against Burnley at the weekend.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks likely to move to Arsenal as his replacement, with the Gunners making it clear the Armenia international was central to any deal.

The north London side initially wanted Martial to be included, but Manchester United were reluctant to let him go.

And the Independent say the Red Devils made that decision because they feel Martial will, one day, be as good if not better than Sanchez.

The France international seems to Jose Mourinho’s first-choice left-winger ahead of Marcus Rashford.

Martial spent much of last season stuck on the bench with Rashford regularly getting the nod.

Yet that has changed in recent weeks with Martial now Mourinho’s go-to man.

His stunning display against Stoke on Monday highlighted his talent, with the 22-year-old scoring and providing an assist for Romelu Lukaku.

The Independent say that problems with Mourinho are now a thing of the past and United told Arsenal they expect Martial to be on Sanchez’s level in the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks Sanchez’s arrival could hamper Martial’s development.

Alexis Sanchez: Manchester United may sign the Arsenal star tonight

“So often you say you want more from Martial and you see the ability and the quality he has,” he said.

“If anyone in this team is under more pressure with the news of Alexis Sanchez supposedly coming... it's possibly, not the end, he'll still be part of the squad but you think it's going to be difficult for him going forward if Sanchez came.

“This is a player who came to Manchester United a couple of years ago and you were thinking he was going to be a world beater.

“It just hasn't happened and I think Jose Mourinho has probably ran out of patience.

“That's why he’s come out of nowhere to try and get Sanchez who's come on the market. He's saying I want more from this player and it's not enough.”
