Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that ‘jungle raj’ was back in Uttar Pradesh with murders becoming the order of the day and the police becoming mute spectators.
“What happened in Mathura is a clear case of police acting as a ‘goonda in uniform’. It opened fire without any provocation in which a child lost his life. The government should pay a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family of the deceased,” Yadav said in a statement issued in Lucknow on Thursday.
Akhilesh said that the BJP government came to power claiming to improve law and order. “But the fact remains that the police is nowhere to be seen on the street which has resulted in increase in crime against women. Traders are living under constant fear as they were being forced to pay protection money failingwhich their shops are looted by criminals as it happened with jewellers in Jhansi and Lucknow,” alleged the SP national president.
“The previous government had started ‘UP 100’ and ‘1090 Women Powerline’ which helped a great deal in giving protection to the women,” he said.
Taking a jibe at the BJP government, Akhilesh asked what could any one expect from a government where the post of DGP has beeen lying vacant for almost a week.
“The government is trying to improve law and order. It should realize that unless the crime rate is brought down, no investor will come to UP,” the SP chief said.
