Senegal ICT sector grows to 5.1% of GDP in 2017

Senegal’s ICT sector generated XAF 636.3 billion of revenues in 2017, thus 5.1 percent of Senegal’s gross domestic product (GDP), reports Ecofin. According to a report from the ministry of economy, finance and planning, ICT sector grew strongly, from XAF 471 billion in 2016. 

This was in a context marked by the rise of 4G and a penetration rate for mobile telephony exceeding 100 percent. Meanwhile, in 2017, telecoms services recorded a slight increase of 0.8 percent against increase of 5.7 percent in 2016. According to the report “other information and communication services” generated XAF 165.3 billion.
