NEW DELHI: BJP leader
Suraj Pal Amu on Thursday said that if 'Padmaavat' was released, the country will "break," news agency ANI has reported.
"Today the Supreme Court has hurt the sentiments of lakhs of crores of Hindus who respect it. We will continue our fight, even if I am hanged. If this film is released, the country will break," ANI quoted him as saying, after the top court struck down the ban on the film's release imposed by some states.
In its order, the SC also restrained other states from issuing such a ban on the exhibition of the film. It stated that all states are constitutionally obliged to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents during the film's screening across India.
Fringe groups like the Rajput Karni Sena allege that the film distorts the story of Queen Padmini of Mewar, and have been protesting its release for months.
Amu was the chief media coordinator of the Haryana BJP, but had resigned from his post claiming that he was upset over Chief Minister
Manohar Lal Khattar allegedly skipping a meeting with representatives of the Rajput Karni Sena.
He had infamously offered a Rs 10 crore bounty to anyone who could behead 'Padmaavat' actor
Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
