Families have plenty of options to get out and warm up this weekend. As usual, Starry Nights begins at 6 p.m. Fridays at Roper Mountain Science Center, and bookstores such as Barnes & Noble Booksellers and M. Judson Booksellers & Storytellers will host children’s story time events Saturday morning. There are also other events worth considering.

Celebrate Squirrel Appreciation Day 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville Zoo. Learn about the important role squirrels play in the ecosystem during your visit. For details, visit www.greenvillezoo.com.

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s Lollipops Concert: The Bremen Town Musicians is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Simpsonville Branch Library and at 11:30 a.m. at the Hughes Main Library. It’s Kid Inventor Day at The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and families can celebrate at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with special activities. Kid’s Inventor Day is celebrated on Jan. 17, the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who invented the first swim flippers almost 300 years ago at age 12. A Kids Only “Warm Me Up” Meals Cooking Class is planned for 10 a.m. - noon Saturday at The Cook’s Station in downtown Greenville. You can also bring your kids to a JCPenney store for January’s Kids Zone activity 11 a.m. - noon Saturday. Children anjoy a special activity while parent receive a 10 percent off Kids Zone Coupon to use in the store. This month, children will personalize a Valentine's Day Card Holder and receive a pin for every project they finish. All kids must be accompanied by a parent.

It’s Stomper’s Super Hero Birthday Sunday at the Greenville Swamp Rabbits game at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Festivities start at 3 p.m., and Stomper and some of his Marvel superhero friends will greet fans on the concourse. Bring your skates to the game and hit the ice with the Swamp Rabbits after the game for free. Skate rentals will be available for $3. Bon Secours Family Fun Packs will be available, which include four tickets, hot dogs, drinks, chips and a Swamp Rabbits souvenir for $60, are available online at www.swamprabbits.com.
