A 16-year-old boy is dead after his vehicle crashed into a light pole early Thursday in Scottsdale, officials said.

Scottsdale police said speed was a contributing factor.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Scottsdale Road just north of Doubletree Ranch Road, according to Sgt. Ben Hoster with the Scottsdale Police Department.

Hoster said the vehicle was going north on Scottsdale Road when it struck a light pole and was torn in half upon impact.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Hoster said.

Authorities said the southbound lanes of Scottsdale Road were reopened by 8:40 a.m. Thursday and the northbound lanes opened with restrictions for the power pole to be repaired.

No other details were readily available.
