BoF, Dutch consumer org want NPO to adjust Start app conditions

Bits of Freedom (BoF) and Dutch consumer organisation Consumentenbond want public broadcaster NPO to quickly adjust its Start app. According to the organisations, the app works only if users agree to the collection of data covering their viewing behaviour. BoF and the Consumentenbond in particular denounced the fact that adding an option to the app could take several months. The groups said the deadline is too long and have questioned NPO about this.

Since the end of December, the NPO Start app has included a statement that shows advertisers collect its data. Users must agree to this. If they do not, they are not granted access. BoF and the consumer association said that according to the cookie law, access to the website of a government agency such as the NPO, should not be dependent on the acceptance of advertising cookies.

Socialist Party SP has asked questions to the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Media about the state of affairs.
