CEB employees to commence strike over alleged assault on striking colleagues

The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees’ Union says, it will engage in a strike action from 9 a.m. today.Its Convenor Ranjan Jayalal said, the strike action was decided to be carried out in protest of an assault on its employees who were engaged in a strike last night.

The Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), who was trapped by the employees was rescued last night by the riot police and STF officers.

The employees of the CEB had launched the protest in an attempt to legalize an illegal salary increment in 2014.

They had then entered the CEB headquarters and allegedly trapped the Chairman.

However, when News 1st made inquiries regarding the prevailing situation from the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena said no official announcement has yet been made regarding the strike.
