A pair of brothers from Spartanburg was recently convicted as part of a federal investigation into drug distribution and money laundering.
Soeuth Ath, 45, and Sean Ath, 43, were recently convicted by a jury of conspiracy to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana, and conspiracy to launder drug proceeds, according to U.S. Attorney Beth Drake.
Drake said in a statement that the pair used U.S. mail to traffic drugs.
They are awaiting sentencing. Each faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison, Drake said in the statement.
In September 2016, law enforcement in Spartanburg an Greenville counties and in Bakersfield, Calif., executed search warrants, leading to 16 people being charged, including six S.C. Department of Corrections inmates, Drake stated.
The Ath brothers were the last of those charged to be convicted in connection to the drug trafficking and money laundering scheme, Drake said. The rest pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
