Americans largely support legislation to allow undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children — known as “DREAMers” — to remain in the country legally, according to a new survey.

They’re less excited about a bill providing for both “DREAMers” and a wall on the border with Mexico.

That’s the finding of a Quinnipiac University national poll released Thursday on issues at the center of the debate on must-pass legislation to keep the government fully operational beyond Friday.

Democrats want legislation protecting “DREAMers” to be included in the package while Republicans and President Trump have called for a broader immigration package that includes more border security and a wall. The House GOP’s proposed four-week funding bill does not include an immigration fix.

The poll found 73% of American voters support DREAMer legislation. That includes support among 49% of Republicans.

By a 49-39%, respondents opposed legislation combining protection for DREAMers with funding for a wall. Republicans support the wall/DREAMer combination bill 54-29%

Most voters — 89% — say legal immigration is good for the country.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,212 voters nationwide from Jan. 12-16. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points,
