Fury FC signs midfielder Kevin Oliveira

With training camp opening Jan. 29, Ottawa Fury FC has signed 21-year-old attacking midfielder Kevín Oliveira.

Oliveira played for new Fury FC head coach Nikola Popovic with Swope Park Rangers during the past two United Soccer League seasons and also with Benfica B in Portugal in 2015.

After moving to Portugal from Cape Verde at age 14 and joining Benfica’s Academy in 2010, Oliveira joined Swope Park ahead of the club’s inaugural season. In two USL seasons, he has six goals and six assists. He signed a Major League Soccer contract with parent club Sporting Kansas City last September and made two appearances before rejoining Swope Park to finish the season on loan and helping the team reach the USL Cup Final for a second consecutive season.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what Kevin, a young, explosive midfielder, can bring to our club,” Fury FC general manager Julian de Guzman said. “We know he has the potential to infuse swiftness and excitement on the field, which will help us deliver the attractive and successful style of play we promised for our fans.”

Fury FC will open its season on March 17 in Charlotte against the Independence and will host North Carolina FC on April 21 at TD Place stadium in its home opener.
