KILLINGLY – The Waterford girls’ basketball team got back in the winner’s circle after back-to-back losses to Woodstock Academy and Norwich Free Academy, beating Killingly on Wednesday, 51-28.
The Lancers nearly scored as many points as they had combined in their previous two losses and turned in their second-best defensive performance of the season as they improved their record to 7-5. The Redgals’ record dropped to 3-8 with the loss.

PLAINFIELD – The Plainfield boys’ basketball team managed to hold off St. Bernard on Tuesday for its fourth straight win.
Chris Peasley and Makeith Conyers led the Panthers (7-4) with 23 and 21 points, respectively, while Connor Davis added 16. The Saints (8-2) got 30 points from Hunter Baillargeon and 11 from Joe Bettran.

LEBANON – The Windham boys’ basketball team got a close win over Lyman Memorial on Tuesday to inch itself back up to .500.
Cliff Jones got a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Whippets (4-4) while Joseph Perez had 15 points and eight boards. The Bulldogs (2-6) got 34 points from David Lopez.

WILLIMANTIC – The Windham girls’ basketball team rode an 11-3 run in the fourth quarter to victory over Lyman Memorial on Tuesday, securing its third straight win.
Neisha Rodriguez posted a double-double for the Whippets (5-6) with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Nicole Peralta got 11 points and Tamia McBride finished with seven points and seven assists. The Bulldogs (6-5) got 10 points from Hailey Tompkins.

THOMPSON – Skyla Wesolowski scored on a put-back shot with seven seconds left to get the Tourtellotte girls’ basketball team the win over Putnam on Tuesday.
Lauren Ramos posted a double-double for the Tigers (6-7) with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Katey Kwasniewski got a double-double of her own with 10 points and 12 boards, including a pair of free throws to tie the game with less than a minute to play. Kayleigh Lyon scored 10 points to lead the Clippers (9-2).

NEW HAVEN – The UConn-Avery Point men’s basketball team pulled out the win in double overtime against Gateway Community College on Tuesday.
Jacee Hamelin led the Pointers (5-9) with 26 points, while Tyrel Martinez (New London/New London HS) got 20 points and Nick Fersch (East Granby/East Granby HS) added 13.

NEW HAVEN – The UConn-Avery Point women’s basketball team won its third game in four days on Tuesday, scoring the victory over Gateway Community College.
The Pointers (12-5) got double-doubles from four different players, led by Tatyana LaFrance-Boyce’s (Pawcatuck/Stonington HS) 39 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Meagan Bianchi (Brooklyn/Killingly HS) put up 12 points, 11 assists and six boards, Edona Thaqi (Stamford/Westhill HS) got 10 points and 14 rebounds and Hannah LeBeau (East Lyme/East Lyme HS) finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Brenden Russ scored the first goal of his college career in the closing seconds of overtime to get the Connecticut College men’s hockey team the win over Worcester State on Tuesday.
William White and Chris Jellison scored the other two goals for the Camels (6-8), while Kyle Moss, Brett Stirling, Jake Farabee and A.J. Wallace all got assists. Tim Cooney (Rocky Hill/Phillips Exeter Academy) got his first career win with 23 saves in net.

RUTLAND, Vt. – Katlyn Paiva scored her second goal of the season midway through the third period to give the No. 9 Connecticut College women’s hockey team the win over Castleton on Tuesday.
Kyla Floresca and Lily Connolly scored the other two goals for the Camels, with Connolly scoring on the power play. Jordan Cross got two assists, including one on Paiva’s game-winner, and Ellie Branka, Elena Gualtieri and Lauren Helm each had an assist as well. Bailey Mertz finished with 13 saves to get the win.
