National anthem to be played at Clock Tower Circle every day at 9 a.m.

With the clock striking 9 a.m. at the busy Clock Tower Circle in Karimnagar town, the national anthem started playing on the public address system, and the large crowd that had assembled began singing in chorus on Thursday.

It marked the beginning of a new programme to sing the national anthem at this historic heritage structure every morning. The Tower Circle friends association, in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) authorities, launched the programme on a grand scale.

Successful launch

Mayor S. Ravinder Singh, Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka and local municipal corporators, members from the business community and students of various schools participated in the programme on Thursday. Buoyed over the successful launch, the Mayor said that the daily affair would be introduced across the town in a phased manner.

“We will ensure that public address systems are installed at public places such as bus stations, junctions, schools and offices to play the national anthem at 9 a.m. as a mark of respect to the country and freedom fighters,” he said.

Mr. Shashanka said that the programme would instill confidence and promote patriotism among the people of the town. He reiterated that the programme would be introduced across the town and that authorities would ensure that everyone would participate in it.

The Commissioner recollected that the historic Tower Circle, which was constructed by British government Collector Hunter in 1928, was the tallest structure of the town in those days.

Protective measures

The Tower’s bell helped people know the time, the Commissioner said, adding that measures to protect it and remove the police sub-control room from the premises would be taken.
