Faulkner has its new head football coach.
Former Troy assistant Shayne Wasden will take over as head coach of the Eagles, Faulkner announced in a press release on Wednesday.
Wasden spent 12 seasons with the Trojans (2004-2015), helping lead them to five Sun Belt Conference championships and five bowl appearances.
"I am honored and extremely excited to be given this opportunity,” Wasden said in Wednesday's statement. “We want to create an environment that produces Christ-centered young men that leave this university and have a positive impact on society."
The Selma native played wide receiver at Auburn (1987-1990), where he helped catapult the Tigers to three Southeastern Conference championships.
Prior to Troy, Wasden compiled a combined record of 91-34 over 11 seasons while securing six region or area championships at Eufaula, Opp and Georgiana.
"My staff and I plan to continue to build this program, win games and ultimately win championships," Wasden said. "More important than winning, however, are the Christian principles and values that this university was founded on that our student-athletes will represent both on and off the field."
Jean-Noel Thompson, Faulkner’s vice president of student services, spearheaded the search for Wasden.
“I could not be more excited about what he will bring to the overall character of this program,” Thompson said. “It is his relentless commitment to forever shape the lives of young men through this special combination of faith and football that will make the real difference.”
Wasden replaces Charlie Boren, who resigned in December after six seasons on staff and four as head coach.
Wasden will be formally introduced at a news conference Friday.
