DUSU to come up with Delhi University Students’ Charter

| | New Delhi

The NSUI led Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) is developing a “Delhi University Students’ Charter” in consultation with various stakeholders, including students and faculty of the Delhi University (DU).

For the purpose, the DUSU is widely consulting and getting feedback on regular basis from students and faculties in different colleges of DU. Further, based on upcoming charter the NSUI will push forth their demand for the constitution of a “Students Rights Commission” at both national and State levels.

“The students’ charter we are coming up with is based on the our belief that the students and the University administration need to work in tandem with each other so as to realise a vibrant learning environment within campus,” said Rocky Tuseed, president, DUSU.

Also, the charter proposes to have a democratically elected student union in every DU college with not less than one third of seats to be reserved for women candidates on annual rotation basis.

As per it, every DU college shall mandatorily have an “active grievance redressal cell”, that must address the grievances of students within 15 days of the receipt of complain. Having an active placement cell to secure internship, job opportunities for and promoting entrepreneurship among students is also desired.

DUSU president informed that the Governing Council of the colleges will be the first point of contact for grievance redressal, with the elected college president as an ex-officio member of the Governing Council.

“Academic Council and Executive Council of Delhi University will be appellate authorities for decisions made by college Governing Councils. Elected DUSU representatives will be ex-officio members of the two Councils,” he said.
