Police say they caught two armed robbery suspects in the act after they allegedly stole a car and robbed a southwest Houston convenience store on Wednesday night. A third robber is still at large.
About 10:30 p.m., police officers in an unmarked car spotted a truck that had been reported stolen in the Third Ward -- the victim had said three men took his truck from him at gunpoint, said Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson. The truck rolled up to a Buzzy Bee convenience store near Hillcroft and Airport.
And shortly thereafter the officers saw three men run out of the store. They had just robbed it, Crowson said.
The officers called in marked police cars or backup and began pursuing the stolen vehicle. The men led police on a brief chase, ending at Airport and Chimney Rock after the truck crashed and rolled on its side.
At that point, the men took off running. A helicopter was called in and quickly located one of the men, then found one other hiding in heavy brush. The third escaped.
When officers announced that they would release a K-9 unit, the man came out and surrendered.
Crowson said possible charges against the men will include aggravated robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading on foot and evading in a vehicle, a felony.
