Royal honeymoon: Where did the royal couples go on holiday?

The Royal Family have had their fair share of royal weddings throughout the years, with the latest to happen this year in May.

Prince Harry, 33 is set to marry Meghan Markle, 36 later this year at Windsor Castle as the newest royal couple to tie the knot.

Some of the biggest weddings, such as between Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge attracted over 20 million watchers, whilst Prince Charles' and Lady Diana's was seen as the “wedding of the century”.

But whilst the weddings were hugely spectated, their honeymoons were much more private. Where did members of the Royal Family honeymoon?

Seychelles

Prince William and Kate Middleton married in 2011 and chose arguably the most romantic destination for a young royal couple in love.

They headed to the Seychelles and stayed at the exclusive North Island for privacy.

The luxury resort, costing as much as £5,000 a night, has also been frequented by celebrities such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt on their honeymoons.

With 24-hour service, spa treatments, diving and their own catered meals and private pool make it a honeymoon not forgotten.

Boarding at Gibraltar, they spent two weeks cruising around after spending two nights at Broadlands, the country estate owned by the Mountbatten family.

Sadly their honeymoon was less happy than Prince William and Kate's, with secret letters from Diana stating it was the perfect trip to “catch up on sleep”.

The Azores

Hampshire and Scotland

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have been married for 70 years after their wedding on November 20 in 1947.

Their honeymoon was spent much closer to home, as they chose two destinations in the UK to spend their time as a newly married couple.

Broadlands in Hampshire was their first stay, choosing the family home of the Mountbatten’s which was owned by Prince Philip’s uncle Earl Mountbatten.

They then headed to Birkhall in Scotland, which was where the Queen often spent her summer with the Queen Mother.
