The City of Keego Harbor will swear in its new police chief at a city council meeting on Thursday, Jan. 18.

John Fitzgerald, who comes from the Southfield Police Department, replaces outgoing Police Chief Kenneth Hurst, who retired last week.

Fitzgerald rose through the ranks at his old department, from patrol officer to sergeant, to lieutenant and lastly, to deputy chief, according to Rob Kalman, a Keego Harbor city councilman.

Over 30 others applied for the chief’s position. Fitzgerald comes highly recommended by multiple police chiefs from around the county, according to the councilman.
