Aaron Pearce of Charlotte, NC finally got the sticky snow that he has been waiting for to build a snowman on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Pearce decided to build a snowman along a walking path at McAlpine Creek Park in east Charlotte. The creation has its arms extended as if to give passerby a hug.

Pastor Ray Jones and members of his Celebration Place Church of the Nazarene congregation came together on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 to pray for the three deputies and police officer who were shot while searching for Christian Thomas McCall in York County, SC early Tuesday morning. The deputies had responded to a domestic violence related call at a home on Farrier Lane located outside York, SC.

Charlotteans celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an assortment of activities at the Harvey B. Gantt Center and the Levine Museum of the New South. The day gave parents, educators and Freedom Marchers the opportunity to share their perspectives and memories of struggle and the need to continue fighting for equality.

Saturday's Martin Luther King parade in uptown Charlotte. The free Charlotte-Mecklenburg MLK National Holiday Celebration is one of the Southeast's largest promoting King's nonviolent pursuit of equal rights for all. The parade has been a Charlotte tradition since 1981. Thousands line the route each year to watch more than 100 community organizations, marching bands, floats and dance performers.
