A new hotel has opened in downtown Leavenworth.
The Home2 Suites by Hilton, 250 Delaware St., opened Jan. 5, according to General Manager Carolyn Kelly.
She said the hotel has 107 suites, all of which have a kitchen.
The hotel also features a heated indoor pool and a meeting space that can accommodate up to 70 people.
“We have an expanded fitness center that meets military standards,” she said.
Home2 Suites is an extended stay hotel, but Kelly said customers can check in for short stays as well.
“You can come for one night or you can come for a month or a year,” Kelly said.
The hotel is located on the site of a former Ramada Inn. The city of Leavenworth purchased the property in 2013 and had the old hotel building demolished. The city sold the property to Equis Hotels for the development of the Home2 Suites.
The groundbreaking for the $15 million hotel was in November 2016, according to Kevin Chapman, manager of hotel development for Equis.
“We're in the heart of downtown,” Kelly said.
She said the hotel provides easy access to shopping and restaurants.
The hotel likely will have a grand opening the first week of March.
Leavenworth Assistant City Manager Taylour Tedder said the opening of the new hotel will have a multi-faceted impact on the local economy from the jobs it creates to the tax revenue it generates for the city.
He said the opening of the hotel will increase the number of people who stay in Leavenworth and buy goods and services in the city.
Tedder said the fact that Home2 Suites is the first extended stay hotel in Leavenworth may draw people who otherwise would have stayed elsewhere.
Construction of another extended stay hotel, a Marriott TownePlace Suites, is under way at Fourth and Pawnee streets in north Leavenworth. That hotel is being developed by Ferguson Properties, which previously opened a Fairfield Inn & Suites in the same area.
John Ferguson, president of Ferguson Properties, said he hopes the hotel will be open in October.
"We are ahead of schedule," he said.
