OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Republican state senator has filed a bill to take leftover campaign funds from some state lawmakers who resign, in order to offset the cost of special elections to replace them. The bill by Sen. Ron Sharp of Shawnee would send the resigning lawmaker's remaining campaign funds to the state election board in order to help pay for the election to replace the lawmaker. The bill would not apply to campaign funds of a lawmaker who dies in office.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Republican lawmaker who discovered a high-tech tracking device affixed to his truck initially told police he suspected someone connected to the wind industry may be responsible. Police in the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore on Wednesday released a report detailing state Rep. Mark McBride's discovery of the tracking device on his vehicle. Telephone messages left Wednesday with Oklahoma Wind Coalition officials weren't immediately returned.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a man arrested for trespassing when he refused to leave a Norman hospital has died after being found unresponsive in the Cleveland County jail. Sheriff Todd Gibson says the man was found unresponsive in his cell shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The inmate's name hasn't been released. Gibson says he's asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the death.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - More than a half dozen school districts in Oklahoma and one in Texas have closed for at least a day because of a flu outbreak. In Oklahoma, the Cleveland and Union City schools both closed for a day earlier this week, while the Morris, Quinton, Swink, Hugo and Valliant districts are closed until next week. The Bonham Independent School District in north Texas is also closed until next week.
