The driver of a car that smashed at full speed into Evangelical Christian School late Wednesday afternoon has been identified by his father as Wesley Prophet Sauveur of Fort Myers.
The father, also named Wesley Prophet Sauveur, came to the school late Wednesday to confirm his son's participation in the crash.
In a Facebook posting, the elder Sauveur said his son was driving the car.
"It has been confirmed to me by a ... sheriff officer that it is Wesley prophet Sauveur who died in that crash. Keep us in your prayers," he said.
"The journey may have come to it’s final end for my son Wesley Prophet Sauveur. He took my car without my permission n got into a fatal crash according to Fort Myers sheriff. Pray for us.," the father added on Facebook.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office confirmed the driver's death but did not identify him. The school will be closed on Thursday.
Sauveur crashed the vehicle into Evangelical Christian School with a witness calling it "a mission to self-destruct."
Witnesses saw the tan sedan speeding as it approached the school, hit a short footbridge and launched against the building.
