After three years as CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center, Mark Robinson has accepted a position at a larger hospital in Utah.

Robinson, who hasn't finalized his last day at his Tallahassee job, begins his first day as CEO of St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Feb. 12. A search for his replacement has begun.

"It has been an absolute pleasure being a part of this community. No matter who is the CEO, quality care for our patients is the utmost priority,” Robinson said.

St. Mark's is affiliated with HCA Healthcare — a private company based in Nashville, Tennessee, with locations nationwide. St. Mark's is a 317-bed health care facility with 1,500 employees compared to 266 beds and 850 employees at Capital Regional, another HCA affiliate.

Robinson was named CEO of Capital Regional hospital on Jan. 1, 2015. He shepherded extensive growth with the opening of a 24-bed behavioral health unit on the grounds, outpatient services for behavioral health and an after hours, primary care site at Bannerman Crossing, a mixed-used development of retail and restaurants.

In addition, Capital Regional is building two free-standing emergency facilities tagged for completion in 2019.

The new northwest 6-acre site will be a one-story, 10,800-square-foot facility on North Monroe Street, north of Interstate 10 in the Lake Jackson area. A similar size facility will be built on a 5-acre parcel at Orange Avenue and Capital Circle Southeast near SouthWood. Each location will have 12 emergency beds and is expected to serve more than 25,000 patients per year.

The $25 million development is the largest for the HCA-owned hospital in a decade. The project is expected to create 60 new jobs, including physicians, nurses and medical support staff.  According to the hospital's 2017 community report, Capital Regional has an economic impact of $155 million.

"I’m thankful for the support that this community has provided Capital Regional," Robinson said.
