Matt Snyder, the grandson of Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder, died on Wednesday, the Riley County (Kan.) Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Thursday morning.
Police spokeswoman Hali Rowland said 22-year-old Matt Snyder, the son of Wildcats associate head coach/special teams coach Sean Snyder, died at his home residence in Manhattan, Kan., and that the death is being investigated as a suicide.
Responders were first called to the residence around 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday for a medical call. No foul play is suspected, Rowland said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Snyder family during this very difficult time," Kansas State athletics director Gene Taylor said in a statement. "We are deeply saddened to learn of this news and ask that the family’s privacy continue to be respected. Sean, Wanda, and the entire Snyder family are greatly appreciative of the outpouring of support displayed by the K-State Family as they cope with this tragedy.”
Several former Kansas State players took to Twitter to express condolences for the Snyders.
