SUNDAY

Concert

Do you feel the need for reeds this weekend? If you do, you’re in luck. The selections will include works by Leonard Bernstein, Charles Ives, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and more when the Akropolis Reed Quintet breaks out the sax, clarinets, oboe and bassoon for a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in Opperman Music Hall. The visit is part of The Artist Series season. Tickets are $25. Visit www.theartistseries.org.

SATURDAY

Rock show

Is it a big party for old friends or is it a straight-up rock ‘n’ roll show? Well, it’s both. The legendary Tallahassee rock band Slapstick — featuring John Kurzweg, Terry Simpson, Richard Tengstedt, Steve Taff, Perry Nelson and Jim Graham — will dig deep into its big songbook during its annual reunion concert and public bash at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Moon, 1105 E. Lafayette St. Besides singing and playing guitar, Kurzweg, shown here in the center of things, is also the studio wizard who helped put the band Creed at the top of the charts. Tickets are $15 and $25. Visit www.moonevents.com.

THIS WEEKEND

Concert

If you don’t have 17 hours or so to sit through Richard Wagner’s entire, epic operatic “Ring Cycle,” allow the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra to cut to the chase with a tidy 75-minute version (sans singers) during the “Ring Without Words” concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. Tickets range from $25 to $60. Visit www.tallahasseesymphony.org. If you would like to hear how the Wagner work is put together, attend the open dress rehearsal starting at noon on Friday in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. The rehearsal is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY

Art reception

See colorful abstract drawings on black paper, handmade paper works, contemporary pottery and photography when the “Emerging Artists” exhibition holds a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at The LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, 125 N. Gadsden St. It’s free and open to the public. The artists on display are Robin Sparks, William Mueller, Lisa Stewart, Anne Richardson and Donny Crenshaw, whose “Final Fair” is shown here.

ANSWER OF THE WEEK

We have been playing David Bowie hits and deep tracks around the clock in honor of the late rock icon, who died in January 2016. One of Bowie’s biggest hits — the one that really put him on the map early on during his career — was “Space Oddity” (1969). It featured the fictional character of Major Tom. The space-cruising Major Tom also showed up in two more Bowie tunes. We wanted you to name them. They are “Ashes To Ashes” (1980) and “Hallo Spaceboy” (1996).

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

The Academy Award nominations are being announced on Tuesday morning. We’re really pulling for “Lady Bird” to mop up and maybe Greta Gerwig will get a nod for Best Director. In the meantime, let’s enjoy some Oscars trivia. What do all these actors and actresses have in common: Luise Rainer, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Jason Robards and Tom Hanks?
