It’s closure last year marked the end of an era for loads of North East clubbers but Loveshack is making a comeback as the team behind it have teased the opening of a new venue in Durham.

Famous for its kitsch decor, eclectic musical output, sticky floor and its huge queues, Loveshack attracted revellers to its Walkergate home for over a decade, as well as acts like Cascada, Basshunter and Wheatus, so it was a sad day when its sudden closure and the closure of sister venue My House were announced on social media at the end of August.

The post read ‘It is with a heavy heart that we are writing to inform you that Loveshack and My House are now closed. We are in the process of selling the business and would like to thank all team members for their efforts and enthusiasm over the years.

‘We would like to personally thank all our team members and customers for a fantastic and memorable 10 years.’

But Loveshack’s heart and the hearts of the many people who expressed their sadness at its closure might not be heavy for much longer as, returning to Facebook for the first time in more than four months, Loveshack revealed plans to takeover a new venue.

Taking to Facebook at the weekend, they gave a few teasers for their new venture, which will launch on Saturday, February 3.

They said revellers could expect ‘a city centre location, VIP tables, an all-weather outdoor terrace, drink offers, commercial music policy (with a twist) and guest DJs/PAs and events.

On Thursday the excitement stepped up a notch, when they captioned meme of shocked looking Kevin from Home Alone with 'When you realise Durham is getting a new nightclub!' adding 'Have a good weekend everyone whatever you decide to do and remember big changes are coming!!!'

And, while still not giving too much away, a rep for Loveshack revealed to Chronicle Live that the new venue isn’t in Walkergate.

“It isn’t in the Walkergate complex or North Road but is still in a central city centre location.

“It has two floors of different music and a great outside terrace area. It will be retaining a few of the more popular aspects of Loveshack but with a few new twists.”

The guestlist for launch night is limited to 200 people. To get on it write on the Facebook event wall.
