AG to freeze PTL assets
The attention of the Attorney General has been paid to freeze the assets of Perpetual Treasuries Limited and its' subsidiary companies that were earned illegally through the bond scam.
It was decided at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (Jan. 17) on the recommendations and future course of actions that need to be taken relating to the Bond Commission report.
The meeting was attended by the Central Bank Governor, Attorney General, Director General of the Bribery Commission and several other officials.
It was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The report compiled by the Bond Commission has been made accessible to the public via the Presidential Secretariat website.
The report comprises of 34 chapters.
The Commission has recommended that the Attorney General file a criminal case against the PTL owner Arjun Aloysius and Chief Executive Officer Kasun Palisena under the penal code.
It has also recommended that the Attorney General take action against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
The report noted that the former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran must be held accountable for the first controversial bond issuance and that action should be taken against him in order to have him pay the losses incurred.
