By Tenzin Dharpo DHARAMSHALA, Jan. 18: The President of the Central Tibetan Administration, known more commonly as the exile Tibetan has said that China’s hard line approach towards Tibet is a wrong approach, in that the leadership in Beijing fails to recognize Tibetan people’s genuine plea for autonomy and not independence as touted by China. The head of the Tibetan polity speaking to Mint on a live facebook interview, in New Delhi today, said that his administration remains hopeful of a breakthrough in the diplomatic channels of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s envoys and their counterparts in Beijing, despite repeated condemnation on the motives of the exile Tibetan set up based here. “They (Chinese leadership) should, I think, learn and realize that hardline policies do not work and wisdom should prevail. We have a win-win solution,“ Dr. Sangay said referring to the official stand of the CTA, the middle way approach to seek genuine autonomy for Tibetans instead of independence. The Tibetan leader said reciprocity from Chinese side for dialogue can go on to solve the issue of Tibet while maintaining that official dialogue has not resumed since the halt in official channels between Tibetan and Chinese authorities a few years ago. The CTA President also said that China which is prone to having its sentiments hurt on the global fora should also think about Tibetan sentiments, especially when hardline policies translate into even more suffering and repression of the Tibetan people inside Tibet. China has rejected the ‘Middle Way Approach’ which is the official stand of the CTA, and has gone on to accuse that the approach is merely a front for an independence movement to “separate” Tibet from the so-called Chinese motherland. |
