A woman died after the bike on which she was riding pillion hit a waterlogged pothole on a road that was flooded after a pipeline burst at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday
Sujata Hareshwar Patil (35) and her husband were heading from Panvel market to their home in Chinchpada when the accident took place on Panvel-Uran road.
Constable Vishwanath Vehle of Kamothe police station said, “A vehicle from the opposite direction almost collided with Mr. Patil’s bike. He veered the bike and it skidded owing to the poor condition of road and hit a pothole.
Severe head injuries
“Since a pipeline had burst, the road was flooded and the potholes were not visible. Sujata who was riding pillion fell off the bike in the impact and suffered head injuries. She was brought dead to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli.”
Meanwhile, Panvel city police did not register an FIR even after 12 hours since the accident took place. Senior Police Inspector Vinod Chavan said he was not aware of the incident. Mr. Chavan said the details of the accident will be known only after a case is registered.
Mr. Chavan, “If the victim was taken to a hospital in Kalamboli, then Kamothe police will have do the punchnama. They have to send the documents to us after registering an FIR. Then will the case be transferred to us.”
Senior Inspector Ashok Naik of Kamothe police station said, “We have not filed an FIR. The accident took place with Panvel city police station limits.” The Patil couple have three daughters studying in Classes II, IV and IX respectively. The couple travelled to Panvel market every morning to sell fish.
