(Meredith) -- A St. Louis one-year-old in dire need of a kidney transplant, received the gift of a lifetime from a near-stranger Wednesday. Robyn, a mother of three, wanted to make a big difference in the life of a boy she hardly knew.

She told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch she felt she had a purpose, and giving up one of her kidneys to save another life was the answer.

Michael Loness was born with kidney failure in 2016. He would undergo nearly a dozen surgeries within the first 20 months of his life, according to the report.

Michael received three-hour dialysis treatments, three times a week while waiting for a new kidney.  Only a few months ago, he was added to National Kidney Registry, joining about 115,000 people waiting for a transplant. Neither of his parents, Sarah or Shawn, was a match.

Enter Robyn Rosenberger, who started TinySuperheroes, a St. Louis business dedicated to creating child-sized superhero capes for children, as they overcome illnesses or disabilities.

According to the report, Rosenberger met Michael and his mother, Sarah, through her work. When she learned of Michael's story, she realized the opportunity to help save the young boy's life.

The Post-Dispatch reports that living donors, like Rosenberger, make up about 18% of all kidney donations. This means she is considered among a rare class of donors who are not a close friend or relative of the recipient.

After two months of tests, Rosenberger was approved for the kidney donation and shared the incredible news with the Loness family.

On Wednesday, Rosenberger and Michael went into transplant surgery at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

After several hours of surgery, the transplant was completed successfully.

According to Michael's Journey Facebook page, "Michael is resting comfortably in the PICU. He looks amazing and Super Bean is making lots of urine! Labs will be checked every 6 hours. We have a very sweet nurse, Caitlin, who will be at his bedside through the night. Our surgery team has already checked in him a couple of times and they all seem pleased with how he is doing so far.

This entire day has been a dream come true. Michael began dialysis in June 2016 when he was about 6 weeks old. For the next 589 days he was dependent upon dialysis. Normally Thursday mornings would begin early to take him to Cardinal Glennon for a treatment. Not any longer. Today began the first day of the rest of his life. There are no words. There will never be enough thank yous that can be said to Robyn and her entire family. She has changed the ending to his story.

To our dearest Robyn, 'Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created' Esther 4:14."

From near-strangers crossing paths to a living bond both Rosenberger and Michael will share the rest of their lives, good things do come to those that wait.
