Govt doing its best to curb child mortality

State Government is putting in all possible efforts to reduce child mortality rate in the State. In the year 2017-18 till December, nearly 60,000 children have been freed from malnutrition. As many as 79,458 malnourished children have been treated in the year 2016-17 in the nutrition rehabilitation centres. Nearly 5.96 lakh children have been treated in these centres since year 2005-06.

As many as 315 nutrition rehabilitation centres are being operated in the State to treat acutely malnourished children in state making them completely healthy and for their general development. Acutely malnourished children upto the age of 5 are admitted in these centres and treated as per the centre, WHO and Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) standards. Apart from this Malnutrition Management Units are being run in Rewa, Gwalior, Indore and Sagar Medical Colleges. Free arrangement for advanced examination and treatment for acutely malnourished children has been made in these units. About 1000 severely malnourished children have been successfully treated in year 2017-18 till December.

Government makes arrangement for free transport of severely acute children to the hospital besides transport to two guardins, compensation of wages, free meals, advanced examination and treatment. Medical Colleges and Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres have been affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Ayurvigyan Sansthan, Bhopal where various units have been constituted with the support of National Health Mission and UNICEF for the treatment of severely acute malnourished children.

AIIMS Bhopal has successfully treated nearly 80 acutely malnourished children after setting up diagnostics for advanced examination of rare medical problems. it is for the first time that child mortality rate has come down by seven points.
