After winning the NSIC Tournament a year ago, the Northern State women's basketball team is once again contending for a title. The Wolves are currently tied with Moorhead atop the North Division standings with just ten games to play.Northern State is currently 15-3 on the season, but suffered its first home loss last Saturday against Augustana.
"This doesn't describe what's going to happen in the postseason and hopefully we see them again so we just have to stay motivated and get back on track to where our goals are," senior Haley Froelich said.
"Maybe keep it in the back of your head just as a way to get you fired up, make you you know work that much harder to keep the intensity level that much high in practice and just use it to push you and get better through the week so you can get a win the next weekend," senior Jill Conrad said.
The Wolves closed a five-game homestand on Monday, and now hit the road for six of their final ten regular season games.
"You can't look at it as six games ahead, you've just got to go one game at a time, one win at a time, and if something happens you've just got to go to the next game to the next game. Obviously when you're on the road it's a lot hard than being at home with your crowd but our crowd follows us so hopefully we can just chip away at our goals here," Froelich said.
NSU is 8-1 on its home floor, but has been just as dominate on the road with only one true loss away from Wachs Arena.
"We intentionally played, I don't know, five or six games before the season started down in Missouri, out in Colorado, so I don't think the road intimidates any of our players sometimes I think we play better on the road than we do at home so you know we're not worried about how many games are at home or on the road," head coach Curt Fredricksen said.
The Wolves plan to keep the focus on themselves as they gear up for the final stretch of the season.
"Just focusing on our game: defending, rebounding, do the things that we do well," Conrad said.
Northern State opens a weekend road trip at St. Cloud State on Friday, before play at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
