Junior diver Lexie Layne will be looking to claim her third straight league title when the Three Rivers Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships get under way Friday at Fremont Ross.
Layne,a junior who is already a two-time all-Ohioan, won TRAC 1-meter diving titles as a freshman and sophomore. She is one of three returning TRAC champions for the Findlay High girls swim team. The others are Gabby Diehl and Kaylor Stocker, who were two of the four members on last year’s winning 400-yard freestyle relay.
Findlay is the defending TRAC champion in girls swimming, but it was a close race to the finish. The Trojans amassed 516 points in the 2017 meet, edging Fremont Ross (493) and Toledo St. Ursula (487).
The boys meet will once again be dominated by Toledo St. Francis, one of the top prep programs in the state. The Knights won all but two events in last year’s league meet, but have gottten stronger since the winner of those events — Findlay’s Max Rutledge in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM — now attends St. Francis and competes for the Knights.
The TRAC swim meet gets underway with diving competition on Friday. Finals in the swimming events will be held on Saturday.
