After all those brief dustings of snow earlier in the week people in Newcastle and North East awoke to discover a real blanketing of the white stuff.

We want to see your photographs and video of the snow, especially if they show you having fun with snowmen, snowballs, sledges or the like in this rare weather .

And we particularly love to see recognisable sights, landmarks and areas in the snow too. Reader reaction shows the snow has been particularly heavy in County Durham, while Peter Donnelly reported that there was none in South Shields while our gallery shows snow in neighbouring Hebburn.

How to send in

Email photos to yourpictures@chroniclelive.co.uk telling us where you are and remember to say you are the parent of any children pictured, or we won't be able to use the picture. Videos should be sent to community@ncjmedia.co.uk

We will add as many contributions as we can to the gallery and article. Our thanks to all who have sent in so far. We will continue to add photos until 1pm today.

Do you love or hate the snow?

Following the 2am snowfall there was delight and despair in equal measure as the region opened its curtains today. Nathalie Paris in Consett tweeted @Nattalingo: "My 17-year old has just opened his bedroom window, grabbed some snow and said it was the perfect type of snow and he felt like a three-year-old again! He is so excited he might not even go back to sleep!! #snowday with #teenagers."

But in Sunderland Michael Ashley tweeted: "Really thick snow today. I’ve already nearly slipped about half a dozen times and that was just walking to my car."

And in Newcastle Kelly McNally said: "Trying to get home from work in snow up past my shins ... nightmare"

More snow on the way?

If you do enjoy the snow, make the most of it as no more is forecast by the Met Office in the next week - and if you don't like the snow, you'll be very happy to hear that!
