Sen. Klobuchar collects on Vikings-Saints wager

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota on Wednesday collected on her Vikings-Saints wager with U.S. Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana.

After reliving Stefon Diggs' game-winning touchdown catch -- Klobuchar enthusiastically, Kennedy not so much -- Kennedy offered Klobuchar a king cake -- a traditional Mardi Gras cake, according to a video of the exchange sent out by her office.

"This is the saddest I’ve ever been holding a king cake, but I’m happy to introduce Sen. Klobuchar to our Mardi Gras traditions,” said Kennedy, a Republican.

Although she won the bet, Klobuchar, a Democrat, nonetheless gave Kennedy a tub of Minnesota-made Kemps Purple Power ice cream, which she described as a "good consolation prize."

Both senators said they watched the game to the end.

"I'm thinking, in the last play, like everyone else, 'All you have to do is tackle. Just tackle,' " Kennedy recalled. "Just tackle."

"But that didn't happen," Klobuchar interjected.
