The civic administration has issued instructions for suspending an official of the local body who ordered the demolition of the Regional Sports Centre (RSC), Kadavanthra.
Responding to the developments, Mayor Soumini Jain said the Secretary of the Kochi Corporation was asked to take steps for placing the official under suspension. The Secretary would take up the issue with the State government, which has to issue the final order, she said.
What irked the civic administration was the reported haste with which the official ordered the demolition of the sports complex by keeping the civic administrators and senior officials in the dark.
The centre is an important centre for promotion of sports and is currently managed by a committee headed by the District Collector. Any action on such an important centre needed to be discussed in the Corporation council meeting.
Moreover, such an order could be issued only after discussing with senior officials, she said.
