Srinagar, Jan 18: A Border Security Force (BSF) Jawan was killed and another injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir on late Wednesday night. Three civilians are also said to be injured in the heavy firing and mortar shelling by Pakistan to which India retaliated strongly.
The firing and shelling on the Border Out Posts and civilian areas in RS Pura sector started at 2100 hours on Wednesday, a BSF official said.
Notably, the shells fired by Pakistan landed in Arnia belt and hit several villages as well. Three civilians are said to be injured in the shelling.
“The district administration has asked all its officers to remain in the state of highest preparedness in view of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan,” he said.
However, the villagers have not been evacuated so far, he said.
The ceasefire violation by Pakistan comes in less than two days after four Pakistani soldiers were killed by the Indian Army in the cross-border firing initiated by the former in Poonch sector.
