Death caused by punishment: father

A 15-year-old boy collapsed during assembly at his school in Perambur and died a short while later on Wednesday morning. His father lodged a police complaint stating that the boy had died due to punishment given at the school.

According to the police, Narendran is the second son of Murali and Chitrapavai. The family stays in the Jamalia Housing Board quarters. Narendran was in Class X at a private school.

According to the complaint filed by Mr. Murali with the T.V.K. Nagar police, he dropped Narendran at school around 8.30 a.m. and returned home.

“Around 9.45 a.m., he got a call from the school stating that Narendran had collapsed during the assembly and had been admitted to the Stanley Government Hospital,” said Parimelazhagan, Narendran’s uncle.

However, when Mr. Murali went there, he was informed by the doctors that his son was dead.

The body was handed over to them after post-mortem. Mr. Murali’s complaint said some of his son’s friends said that Narendran and a few other students had been forced to do a ‘duck walk’ by the physical trainer as punishment for being late to school.

The complaint further said Narendran was forced to finish the task despite him complaining of his inability to do it.

Case registered

Meanwhile, senior police officers said preliminary investigations showed that it was a case of natural death. “However, we have registered a case of suspicious death. The viscera has been sent for further tests. Investigation is on,” said a senior police officer.
