Kite flying enthusiasts from across the country and from 12 other countries will be in Hubballi on Friday to participate in the international kite festival.
Pralhad Joshi, MP, has organised the event in association with former MLA for Belagavi Abhay Patil, and Mangal Bharati and Kshamata organisations of Hubballi.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Joshi said 40 kite-flying enthusiasts of national and international repute would participate in the event to be held at BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Vidyanagar, Hubballi.
Mr. Joshi said while kite flying as a hobby was getting popular in the region, such events would also help in attracting more youth to the game. It will also help promote tourism and commercial activities in the region.
He said that Mr. Patil, who was earlier involved in organising similar kite festivals in Belagavi and Goa, had taken active interest in organising the event in Hubballi. Apart from 17 Indian kite flyers, those from Australia, France, Switzerland, Estonia, Canada, United Kingdom, Turki, Austria, Italy, Denmark, New Zealand and the U.S. will participate in the event, which will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m.
