REYNOLDSBURG — Over 120 new century sesquicentennial or bicentennials farms were recognized by the Ohio Department of Agriculture in 2017.
The 125 farms that were recognized were owned by a family for at least 100, 150, or 200 consecutive years, according to a news release. As a result of the recognition, there are now approximately 1,500 farms that are registered in the Ohio Historic Family Farms program.
Every family received a certificate signed by Governor John Kasich and Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David Daniels.
Ohio Historic Family Farms is a voluntary recognition program through the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Century farms have been recognized since 1993. Bicentennial farms were added to the criteria in 2013, with sesquicentennial farms added in 2016.
“Our historic family farms are an important link to Ohio’s great agricultural history and promising future,” said Daniels in a news release. “It’s an honor every time we are able to recognize Ohioans who take such great pride in their own agricultural heritage.”
