Thane, Jan 18: Fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim has been using his two nephews to send messages to his brother Iqbal Kaskar, lodged in a Thane jail, Maharashtra. Iqbal Kaskar‘s son Rizwan and his older brother Anees Ibrahim’s son Aaris came to Mumbai from Dubai in December 2017 to meet Kaskar in Thane Central jail. They left in the first week of January 2018, police sources said.
The police officer said that Aaris travelled from Dubai on a tourist visa and they flew to Delhi and from there, travelled on a train to get to Mumbai. The two had brief meetings with Iqbal Kaskar twice on alternate days. A police source told TOI that the duo stayed at a relative’s place in Gamdevi area in south Mumbai, took a cab to Thane to meet Kaskar. They were accompanied by a close relative, the police said. In jail, Rizwan wept seeing his father Iqbal Kaskar particularly due to his deteriorating health. It is believed that it was during the meeting when Aaris conveyed Dawood Ibrahim’s message to Kaskar. He, according to a TOI report, conveyed that Dawood was upset over his revelation about his family, particularly his only son Moin Nawaz. Kaskar, during the interrogation, had told the police that Moin has decided not to follow his legacy but become a ‘Maulana’.
“Moin is understood to be against his father’s illegal activities which have given the entire family a notorious reputation worldwide and made many of them wanted fugitives,” Police inspector Pradeep Sharma who is probing Kaskar extortion case had then said.
