Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in its countrywide drive seized smuggled goods and contraband items, including yaba pills and phensidyle, worth around Tk. 1217.55 crore in 2017, which is Tk. 331 crore higher compared to previous year 2016.
Sources at the BGB headquarters said the paramilitary force recovered smuggled goods and contraband drugs worth around Tk. 1161.67 crore in 2016.
Besides, the paramilitary force also detained 2689 people for their alleged involvement in smuggling, including illegal drugs, and 1114 others for illegally crossing of Bangladesh territory during the period between January 1 and December 31 in 2017.
The BGB also seized 65 pistols, 48 guns, 300 bullets, 61 magazines and one revolver during the period, said BGB Public Relation Officer (PRO) Mohammad Mohsin Reza.
