Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon yesterday urged the left leaning parties to be united for the development of leftist ideology.
Menon, also minister for social welfare, made the call while speaking at a discussion marking the 15th death anniversary of Amal Sen, founding president of Workers Party of Bangladesh, at Bankri in Bagharpara upazila of Jessore.
Amal Sen, also a leader of the historic Tebhaga Movement, was born at the house of his maternal uncle at Auria in Narail on July 19, 1914, and died in Dhaka on January 17, 2003.
Elaborate programmes have been chalked out to observe the death anniversary of the leader. The programmes include placing of floral wreath at the grave, discussions, art competition for children, cultural sessions and a two-day Amal fair at the ground of Bankri Government Primary School.
Among others, Bimal Biswas, Dilip Barua, Rabiul Alam and Zillur Rahman Bhitu attended yesterday's discussion presided over by Iqbal Kabir Jahid, politburo member of Workers Party of Bangladesh.
Amal Sen dedicated his life for the welfare of the common people and leaders like him are becoming rare in the country, speaker said at the programme.
