Students from 39 technical schools across State take part

The first-ever All Kerala Technical High School Science and Technology Festival drew to a close here on Wednesday with the Kokkur Technical High School in Malappuram district bagging the overall championship and taking home the ever-rolling trophy with 40 points.

The Technical High School, Shoranur, Palakkad district, came a close second with 39 points and the Technical High School, Vadakara, Kozhikode district, was close behind with 37 points. The Kokkur school bagged the first prize in the exhibition category. In individual categories, the first prize went to Mohammad Shiyad of THS Manjeri, for working model making and to Vaishnav Prem of THS Kuttippuram in still model making. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran and Mayor V.K. Prasanth gave away prizes to the winners at the concluding ceremony of the festival held at Technical High School, Sreekaryam.

Students from as many as 39 technical schools across the State took part in the festival that saw sizeable crowds of spectators. Manujith of Class X said his solar village model could be scaled up to run a city entirely on solar energy. A refreshing sight at the festival was that of scores of girls participating in the competitions and explaining in detail the working of battery-driven buses and modern irrigation systems that consume less power.

‘A new trend’

Giving away the prizes, Mr. Surendran hoped that the first technical school science and technology festival would set a new trend in the State that was familiar with festivals that showcased the talent of students in various art forms. The Minister also visited the pavilions where the models were on display.
