India enter final of Blind Cricket World Cup

Ajman (UAE): A dominant India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to set up a title clash with arch-rivals Pakistan in the Blind Cricket World Cup, here on Wednesday. Man of the Match Ganeshbhai Muhudkar's century steered India home comfortably. He scored 112 in just 69 balls. Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 256 all out in 38.5 overs. Defending champions India will take on Pakistan on January 20 at Sharjah. India's strong bowling restricted them to a modest score as Durga Rao took 3 wickets in 3 overs by giving away only 20 runs. Deepak Mallik and Prakash bagged 2 wickets each.

India hammer Japan 6-0 in Nations' Invitational

Tauranga (New Zealand): Dilpreet Singh and debutant Vivek Sagar Prasad struck a brace each as the Indian men's hockey team thrashed Japan 6-0 in its opening match of the double-leg Four Nations Invitational Tournament here on Wednesday. Apart from Dilpreet (35', 45') and Vivek (12', 28'), Rupinder (7') and Harmanpreet Singh (41') also scored in India's win. The team got off to a dominant start, controlling the ball rather swiftly, passing around neatly and quickly to penetrate the Japanese circle. India will take on Belgium in their second match on Thursday.

Aditya in as cover for Ishan in India U-19 team

Mount Maunganui: Pacer Aditya Thakare has been called in as cover for an injured Ishan Porel in the Indian under-19 cricket team, which is currently competing in the ICC World Cup here. "India U19 medium-pacer Ishan Porel suffered a bruised heel in his left foot during India's first group game of the ICC U19 World Cup against Australia," the BCCI said in a statement. "He has a soft tissue injury and the BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," it added. "The Indian team management in New Zealand has asked for Aditya Thakare as cover and the Vidarbha bowler will join the team before the quarter-final on 26th January 2018," the BCCI stated.

Jerry's fastest goal sets up Jamshedpur's 2-1 win

Jamshedpur: Jerry Mawhmingthanga scored Indian Super League's fastest ever goal to help Jamshedpur FC beat Kerala Blasters 2-1 in an entertaining match here on Wednesday. Jerry gave the home side the lead just 22 seconds after kick-off before Ashim Biswas added another goal in the 31st minute as ISL newbies Jamshedpur notched up their first win at home. For the Blasters, Mark Sifneos pulled one back in the 90th minute. Jamshedpur had lost twice and drawn twice at home before Wednesday's maiden win. The vital win kept Jamshedpur's hopes of making the top four alive. They are now at seventh spot with 13 points from 10 matches. The win also snapped Blasters coach David James' unbeaten three-match streak since taking over the reigns of the Kochi- based side.

Rana guides Veer Marathas to first win in PWL

new delhi: Commonwealth Championship silver medallist Parveen Rana fought his to a hard-earned victory to help Veer Marathis win the battle between two Maharashtra teams in the Pro Wrestling League here on Wednesday. In the last bout of the tie, with the scores tied 3-3, he overcame compatriot Praveen Dahiya of Mumbai Maharathi 6-4 to give the debutants their first victory in the league. Parveen looked in great touch and registered his first win in this year's edition.
